The Problem

HVAC units typically consume 30-60% of a commercial building’s electricity but output little or no data about system health or alarms.

ASHRAE (The American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers) estimates that 60% of commercial floor space is served by rooftop air conditioning units.

ASHRAE also estimates 50-67% of these rooftop units are improperly charged with refrigerant (Freon) or have airflow issues.

The Stakes

A 2010 Purdue University study put a price tag on poorly charged units:

“An undercharge of 25% would cause an average penalty in SEER of about 16 percent and a cost penalty of $100 per year per ton of rated capacity for typical electrical rates.”

That puts a single undercharged 20-ton unit (more common than not) wasting $2,000/year.

The Solution

We need information - LOTS of accurate, real-time information.

1: If you already have an existing BAS system

Enerfit speaks industry standard, open-protocol BACnet. We use plain text and standardized nomenclature to make integration a snap via BACnet IP or BACnet MS/TP.

Both technologies are included standard on all of our controllers.

Have a unit controller you love? Our V1 product allows your existing thermostat/controller to make heating and cooling calls. Enerfit just observes and maximizes your savings in real-time.

Our V2 product takes over complete control of the unit for essentially the same price.

Got 10 units on a roof from five different manufacturers? Enerfit V2 has been a favorite with customers looking to standardize and simplify unit control.

2. If you don't have a BAS system - or don't like the one you have

Enerfit V2 is a next-gen BAS system built into your HVAC retrofit.

At the most basic level, every Enerfit comes with an EMT (Enerfit Monitoring Tool) that resides in the unit and shows critical unit information and alarm in real time.

Service techs no longer need to immediately hook up their gauges when they start the troubleshooting process. With the EMT, they immediately get far more accurate real-time information.

On V2 units, the EMT allows technicians to go one step further and easily manual cooling stages on/off, heating stages on/off, enable/disable the economizer, and manually control the fan speed and OA damper.

Once the units are networked (by either BACnet IP or MS/TP twisted pair), Enerfit can use enteliWeb, a centralized enterprise monitoring, alarming logging, and control server that runs similar to a Windows Domain Controller but for HVAC controls.

Trends, comparisons and histories are customizable and easily imported into Microsoft Excel and other database formats.

For organizations that wish to keep all data on internal networks, enteliWeb can be installed on a single physical or virtual Windows computer and provides web-client access to computers or mobile devices via HTML 5.

However, many of our customers need a comprehensive cloud based alternative - especially retail and hospitality facilities.

3. The Ultimate Cloud Solution

Our partners at Delta Controls have taken enteliWeb to the next level. Our customers already love the detailed alarming, scheduling and robust control offered by enteliWeb.

But what about centralized control of multiple branch offices or retail/convenience/hospitality chains? Solutions existed but required static IPs, port-forwarding and a slew of requirements that were expensive and created IT security concerns.

Hosted enteliWeb utilizes HIP (Host Interface Protocol) to create a 2048-bit encrypted tunnel to the cloud using any DHCP LAN/WAN connection. It requires NO router configuration, port forwarding or even the need to involve your IT department.

BACnet to enteliWeb HIP Bridge

2,048 bit encryption
Operating Temp Range -20° to 70° C (-4° to 158° F)

The bridging device comes pre-configured to connect to your cloud account and has three plugs. Plug in the control network, the regular LAN, and power and it's live on the cloud within seconds.

4. Next Level Analytics

enteliWeb offers a powerful scheduling, alarming and control platform for building owners and facilities managers. But what about deep historical trending, regression curves?

CopperTree Analytics is a snap-in service for enteliWeb that offers a standard 10-year history of all points and a library of deep analytic tools.

Warning: MBAs and energy analysts may find the following images very desirable.

And, yes, there are regression curves.
